Bear in heraldry

The bear as an emblem is little stylized heraldic in its presentation.

Since the Middle Ages, he is known as a herald image. First mentioned on the label Bernburger line of the House of Ascanians, he has conquered its place in heraldry.

In the Berlin coat of arms, he is stylized, but often the natural representation is to be found in Swiss Arms ( city and canton of Bern ). Walking upright is found, however, in the cantons of Appenzell and both the City of St. Gallen ( golden necklace ), which can mean rebel strength and yourself.
