Beau Travail

The legionnaire is a French film directed by Claire Denis dating back to 1999.

Action

A group of young legionaries on the Gulf of Djibouti, is loyal to their trainers, the sergeant Galoup ( Denis Lavant ). Galoup knows nothing other than the Army and its mission, but the order is disturbed by the young soldier Sentain ( Grégoire Colin ).

To get rid Sentain, Galoup sets a trap, as a result of which he commits a disciplinary violation. As punishment Galoup puts him out alone in the salt desert, handed Sentain previously but a broken compass, so that it is impossible to find back to the camp.

Galoup flies open and is forced to leave the Legion. Sentain is found and rescued by a group of locals. Back in Marseille, Galoup looks outside the Legion's no future for themselves. The last scene of the film suggests a suicide Galoups.
