Bedford Master

The so-called Bedford Master (English Master of the Bedford Hours, Bedford Master; French Maître de Bedford, Maître du Duc de Bedford ) was a 1405-1465 acting in Paris French book painters. It is named with a Notnamen after the Bedford Hours (English Bedford -hours ), which was believed ( Winkler 1914) that there by John of Lancaster, 1st Duke of Bedford ( 1389-1435 ), was commissioned. His work also includes a breviary (Salisbury Breviary ).

The work of master of Bedford was based on the Très Riches Heures of the Limbourg brothers.

The Master of Dunois is considered to be students of the Bedford Master, as contemporaries of the Master of Bedford also applies likewise acting as illuminators in Paris Master of the Munich Golden Legend.
