Beigang (Yunlin)

Beigang, also Peikang (Chinese北港 镇, Pinyin Běigǎng Zhen, W.-G. Pei -kang Chen, north port ') is a town (镇, zhen ) in Yunlin County in Taiwan. The most Beigang River located in the south of the district municipality has an area of 41.5 km ² and 43,741 inhabitants (March 2009). Beigang was one of the oldest port cities in Taiwan, today can be the low water level of the river no commercial shipping longer.

Attractions

  • Chaotian Temple

The temple in honor of Mazu, the Taoist goddess of the sea, annually attracts more than one million visitors. The temple was built in 1694 and is one of the oldest and most important temple of the Goddess Mazu in Taiwan. The temple was last renovated in 2009.
