The Beijing Railway Station (北京 站Chinese, Pinyin Běijīng Zhan ) is next to the Western Railway and the Southern Railway Station one of the three major railway stations of Beijing.

The opening of the western train station in 1996 and the new South Station 2008, the Central Railway Station lost its importance, but is still used by 120,000 to 150,000 travelers daily.

Location

The station is located in a central location close Jianguomen within the 2nd Ring Road. The main building offers access to several waiting rooms. Access to the platforms is only possible for passengers with valid tickets. In an adjacent building, there are buttons for the ticket sales.

History

The first precursor building was built in 1901 and has already extended a short time later. The present building was built as one of the "Ten large building " ( "十大 建筑" ) for the tenth anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic and was then regarded as a successful combination of traditional and modern architectural styles ( " Socialist Classicism ").

Operation

Today the station is mainly used by trains in Manchuria as well as Shandong, Shanghai, Nanjing and Hangzhou, as well as for trains in Inner Mongolia and the trans- Mongolian railway. All other trains are usually on the West Railway Station. The station is part of Line 2 of the Beijing Subway, which connects the station to the center of Beijing. In addition, the railway station, coach, bus and trolleybus lines operated.
