History

Belén de Escobar was influenced mainly by Asian immigrants. Because of the stormy growth of the peripheral areas of the metropolitan area of Buenos Aires, the city has, however, now assumed the character of a sleeping city. Large parts of the urban area have a poor character, there are many slums. On the other hand, have opened since the 1980s, many country clubs.

Escobar is true because of the many gardens and squares in the center as the city of flowers, and every year here, the national flower festival (Fiesta Nacional de la Flor ) is discharged. Even otherwise the Weekend Tourism of Buenos Aires is an important factor, a considerable part of the popular recreational area of the delta of the Río Paraná is heard so to Escobar.

In the vicinity of the Escobar Spanish Adelantado Pedro de Mendoza founded the beginning of 1536 the first Buenos Aires, probably close to the banks of the Río Luján, a tributary of the Río Paraná. The expedition was also a member of the Bavarian Landsknecht and gunsmith Ulrich Schmidl from Straubing, whose merits were acknowledged in the book " Utz Schmidl " by Federico B. Kirbus.

Politically Escobar has made since the 1990s, stir in Argentina, because there the extreme right-wing Luis Patti, a known collaborator of the military dictatorship in Argentina between 1976 and 1983, was elected to the post of mayor ( intendente ) 1999.
