Bella Davidovich

Bella Davidovich (Russian Белла Михайловна Давидович, Bella Davidovich Mikhailovna; born July 28, 1928 in Baku ) is an American pianist.

Life

Bella Davidovich was in Baku, at that time belonging to the Soviet Union, was born. She comes from a musical family. Her father, a surgeon, was an amateur musician, her mother and grandmother were professional musicians in the choir and orchestra of the Baku Opera.

Bella Davidovich was the age of six first piano lessons at the Conservatory in Baku. She gave her first concert 1937. At Moscow Conservatory, which she attended from 1939, she was taught by Konstantin Igumnov, after the death of Yakov Flier. She completed her training in 1951 and was from 1954 until Fliers assistant. Her husband, the violinist Julian Sitkovetsky ( born 1925 ), died in 1958. Between 1950 and 1978 she was a soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra of the Leningrad Philharmonic in the Soviet Union and Eastern Bloc countries. From 1962 to 1978 she taught at the Moscow Conservatory.

1977 Bella Davidovich accompanied her son Dmitry Sitkovetsky to his concert in Amsterdam. When he did not return to the Soviet Union, she was not allowed to occur abroad. In 1978 she emigrated to the United States and made ​​her U.S. debut in October 1979 at Carnegie Hall. From 1982, she also taught at the Juilliard School. In 1984, she received the U.S. citizenship. In 1988, she returned for the first time after his emigration to the Soviet Union. Since 1999 she has taught master student at the Conservatory in Baku.

Bella Davidovich has performed with conductors such as Charles Dutoit, Christoph Eschenbach, Neeme Järvi, Rostropovich and Edo de Waart.

She prefers playing a works of Frédéric Chopin, but also by Joseph Haydn, Camille Saint- Saëns, Edvard Grieg, Sergei Prokofiev and other composers.
