Bellary or Ballari ( Kannada: ಬಳ್ಳಾರಿ Ballari [ bʌɭ ː a ː ri ] ) is a town in the Indian state of Karnataka. With around 410,000 inhabitants ( 2011 census ) Bellary is the eighth largest city in Karnataka. Bellary is located some 300 kilometers north of Bangalore at an altitude of around 450 meters above sea level on the Deccan Plateau in the eastern Zentralkarnataka. At the border of the neighboring Federal States of Andhra Pradesh, there are less than 20 kilometers. The city is the administrative center of the district of Bellary.
