Bellmead is a city in McLennan County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States of America.

Geography

The city is located on U.S. Highway 35 in east-central Texas and has a total area of 16.1 km ², without significant water surface. The distance to Waco in the southwest is 9 km away and Dallas in the northeast about 150 km.

History

Established the place was the mid-20s as a supply depot with ticket offices and sales transactions of the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad. After several families had moved into the area around the school was first to settle here also built, which was Bellmead School, named after the Belle Meade Farms, then a very famous horse ranch and breeding.

Of the 3,367 households, 35.7 % had children under the age of 18 living with them. 46.9 % were married couples living together. 16.8% were single mothers and 30.7 % were non-families. 26.3 % of all households were single-person households, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.72 and the average family size is 3.28 people.

29.5% of the population were under 18 years old, 11.3 % from 18 to 24, 29.0% 25-44, 18.3% from 45 to 64, and 11.9 % who were 65 years or older. The average age was 32 years. For every 100 females of all ages were 95.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 91.5 males.

The median income for a household was $ 28,189, and the median income for a family $ 31,927. Males have a median income of $ 25,253 versus $ 17,463 for females. The per capita income was $ 13,100. 19.8 % of the population and 16.1 % of families are below the poverty line. Of which 28.4 % have children under the age of 18 and 11.6 % of those 65 or older.
