Benedict Welte

Benedict Welte ( born November 25, 1805 in Ratzenried, † May 27 1885 in Rottenburg am Neckar ) was a German Catholic Old Testament scholar.

After studying theology at Tübingen and Bonn Welte was ordained a priest in 1833. From 1835, he was Repetent on Wilhelmstift in Tubingen, 1838, he was associate professor, then professor of Old Testament in 1840 in Tübingen. In 1857 he was appointed canon in Rottenburg; for health reasons, he worked from then on, hardly scientific.

His work on the Old Testament primarily went 1836-1856 in his article in the ThQ which he was co-editor in 1840, and in the edited and published by his introduction ( 1840-44 ).

Together with Heinrich Joseph Wetzer he gave from 1847 to 1860, the twelve-volume Encyclopedia church out that " an encyclopedic reference work as a collaborative effort of the leading Catholic scholars of the time" represented. He wore Numerous articles in themselves.
