Benjamin Franklin Junkin

Benjamin Franklin Junkin ( born November 12, 1822 Carlisle, Pennsylvania, † October 9, 1908 in New Bloomfield, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1859 and 1861 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Benjamin Junkin attended private schools and graduated from Lafayette College in Easton after that. After a subsequent law studies and his 1844 was admitted to a lawyer, he began to work in New Bloomfield in this profession. Between 1850 and 1853 he was district attorney in the local Perry County. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party, founded in 1854.

In the congressional elections of 1858 Junkin in the 16th electoral district of Pennsylvania was in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the Democrat John Alexander Ahl on March 4, 1859. Since he has not been confirmed in 1860, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1861. This was marked by the events in the immediate run-up to the Civil War.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Benjamin Junkin again practiced as an attorney in New Bloomfield. Between 1871 and 1881 he was chief judge of the ninth judicial district of his state. Since 1886 until his death on October 9, 1908, he was legally working for the Pennsylvania Railroad.
