Benjamin Jaurès

Constant Louis Jean Benjamin Jaurès ( born February 3, 1823 in Paris, † March 13, 1889 ) was a French admiral.

Jaurès occurred in 1841 in the French Navy.

In 1861 he was commander. He commanded the German -Prussian War (1870 /71) as captain of a ship of the line in the North Sea, however, came about in November to the land army and fought on the Loire and in the Perche against the advancing troops of the Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II

After the peace Jaurès and later was elected in 1871 Rear Admiral in the National Assembly, where he joined the left center. In 1875 he was elected to a lifelong senator. In 1876 he commanded a squadron in the Mediterranean again and in 1878 was appointed vice-admiral.

1879 Jaurès was sent as ambassador to Spain, where he worked for three years. In 1882 he went to Russia in this function. From recalled there, he was in 1883 appointed commander in chief of the squadron of evolution and entered 1889 as Secretary of the Navy in the Cabinet Tirard II a.
