Benzingerode is since 1 April 1993, a district of the town of Wernigerode in the Harz district of the state of Saxony- Anhalt.

Geographical location

Benzingerode located on the northern edge of the Harz, in the transition region to the Harz mountains. It is located about 5.5 km (air line) east of Wernigerode, on the old national road 6, which runs right through the village and branches off a road link to Silstedt of the on the eastern outskirts. East of Benzingerode, based on about 215 to 280 m above sea level. MSL, the Struve mountain, southwest of Stapenberg and northwest of Austberg rises.

History

During the Neolithic period the area was inhabited by groups of people who Bernburger culture, be assigned to a subset of the Funnel Beaker culture. As archaeological evaluable testimonies of these groups, so-called burial huts have received. Such was found on the route of the bypass, the newly constructed national highway 6n (see: dead hut of Benzingerode ). The place itself looks back on a nearly 800 -year history. The place name Benzingerode (variations: Benshingerod, Bentsingerod ) is first mentioned in Lehnsverzeichnis of Count Henry I of Regenstein which lists entries from the period 1212-1227. Since it is the oldest part of Lehnsverzeichnisses, is called in the Benzingerode, the date of the first mention might help to narrow down to the years 1212/13.

From a document dated September 28, 1323 stating that Count Heinrich von Regenstein pen Chapter St. Sylvestri handed to Wernigerode three-quarters of the country and a yard to Bencingerode, like his brothers Ulrich and Siegfried have also done it.

The place dates back to two former estates, the Oberhof and the Unterhof. Both names have been preserved as a corridor or street name to this day. The Unterhof to have been the property of the lords of Benzingerode.

Attractions

East of Bezingerode located on the western part of Struve Hill, which is part of the nature reserve at Goat mountain Heimburg, the few remains of the Struvenburg.

North West of the town is the Austberg ( Augsberg / Augstberg ) on which the former waiting Austbergturm ( Austbergwarte ) is - now used as a lookout. From there, the falls look among other Bezingerode, to the resin and in the Harz mountains.

Located in the center neo-Romanesque village church Benzingerode was built in 1903 and is similar to the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in Berlin.

Furthermore, a school museum is in place.

Further north-east of Benzingerode are three standing stones. These are located on a field, near the newly constructed national highway 6 and can be reached via a 6 km stretch menhir trail. The "big " Menhir (3.50 m) is still in its original location, while the other two standing stones were erected recently at more or less original locations again.
