Bergenhus Fortress#Haakon.27s Hall

The Håkon's Hall is a building in the royal court in Bergen ( Norway). The building is owned and stands on the site of the fortress Bergenhus.

History

It was built by King Håkon Håkonsson in the years 1247-1261. The hall is said to have been the traditions after the first time, on 11 September 1261 to the wedding of the son of Håkon Håkonsson, later also known as Magnus Lagabøte, used. The Håkon's Hall was used during this period mainly as a royal residence and the Festhalle. The building was during the Middle Ages in a very dilapidated state, and from 1683 the Håkon's Hall was used as a granary. The Norwegian architect Johan Christian Clausen Dahl discovered the hall again as Norwegian heritage and sat for a reconstruction and reconstruction as a royal hall. The destroyed stepped gables were restored in 1850 based on an old image Håkonshallen the painter Hieronymus Scholeus. The hall was equipped inside with ornate frescoes, tapestries and furniture, by the Norwegian painter Gerhard Munthe (1910 - 1916) were designed.
