Bernard Bosanquet (philosopher)

Bernard Bosanquet ( born June 14, 1848 in Rock Hall at Alnwick; † February 8, 1923 in London) was a British philosopher. Bosanquet taught at the University of Oxford; 1903-1908 he was a professor of moral philosophy at Saint Andrews. In addition to Thomas Hill Green and F.H. Bradley was one of the most important representatives of Bosanquet neo-Hegelianism in England.

Bosanquet was the son of a minister of Huguenot descent. 1866-1870 He studied at Balliol College, Oxford. From 1871-1881 he taught Greek history and philosophy. Together with John Henry Muirhead he founded in London in 1881 London Ethical Society. Bosanquet was also active in the social field, and worked with the Charity Organization Society.

His brother Robert Holford Macdowall Bosanquet was an astronomer, his brother Admiral Day Bosanquet.
