Bernardino Ramazzini

Bernardino Ramazzini ( born October 4, 1633 Carpi, † November 5, 1714 in Padua ) was an Italian physician.

Life

He completed his medical degree in 1659 from Parma.

In 1682 he became professor of medicine at the University of Modena. From 1700 until his death he worked as a professor of medicine at the University of Padua. He published in 1700, with his work De morbis artificum the first complete presentation of important diseases of over 50 professional groups and called for preventive health care. He is considered a pioneer of occupational medicine.

1712 Ramazzini published the first detailed description of the rinderpest. Based on this artefact Giovanni Maria Lancisi later developed the first control program against this epidemic.
