Bernd Eckstein

Bernd Eckstein ( May 22nd, 1953 in Mengersgereuth hammers ) is a former German ski jumper.

Life

Eckstein started early with the ski jumping at SC Motor Zella- Mehlis. In 1970 he exhibits great Vogtland hill in Klingenthal a new hill record on which until 1973 had stock. His international debut was the cornerstone in the Four Hills Tournament 1970 /71. Already at the opening event on the Schattenbergschanze in Oberstdorf, he surprised eighth. Even better was jumping on the Great Olympic ski jump in Garmisch -Partenkirchen, he finished as seventh. After two more good top -20 rankings in Innsbruck and Bischofshofen, he finished the tour ninth.

At the inaugural team jumping on the Aschbergschanze Klingenthal he was with the team, which also includes Heinz Schmidt, Rainer Schmidt and Horst mercury were behind the team from Brotterode second.

After one years of international break, he could not tie in the Four Hills Tournament 1972/73 on this success and ended the tour only ranked 17 overall. His best tour he played with the Four Hills Tournament 1973/74. Although he started only with rank 16 in Oberstdorf, but increased significantly in sixth place in Garmisch -Partenkirchen. After he was able to celebrate his only victory of career at the conclusion jumping on the Paul Ausserleitner hill in Bischofshofen, he finished the tour as third in the Tour overall standings.

He then traveled as a member of the national team for the 1974 Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun. From the large hill he landed after jumps of 92.5 and 93 meters on the 13th Place. From the normal hill he reached the fifth place with jumps of 86 and 81.5 meters.

Despite this success, Eckstein did not start in the Four Hills Tournament 1974/75. It was only in the following year he took up again and finished the Four Hills Tournament 1975/76 in ninth place overall.

At the Olympic Winter Games 1976 in Innsbruck and Seefeld in Tirol Eckstein was ranked 32 on the normal hill and a good seventh place on the large hill. At GDR Ski Championships 1976 in Lauscha little later he secured silver and bronze on the normal hill on the large hill. He also won bronze in the team.

At the Four Hills Tournament 1977/78 Eckstein again managed a sixth place overall, where he narrowly missed fourth in Oberstdorf renewed podium. At GDR Ski Championships 1978 in Schmiedefeld he again won the runner-up title on the normal hill.

After the Four Hills Tournament 1978/79, when the cornerstone denied only the two German jumping and at the end took only ranked 78 overall, he ended his ski jumping career.
