Bernd Redmann

Bernd Redmann ( born May 11, 1965 in Bamberg ) is a German composer and musicologist.

Training

In 1968 his family moved to ground corn, where Redmann his first musical steps at the piano and the tenor horn, later on trombone, undertook. His musical inclination was promoted at the musical St. -Gotthard -Gymnasium ( Niederaltaich ), where his first compositions were performed. After graduation (1984 ) Redmann completed his military service in the Army Band IV in Regensburg and then studied music education, composition (Prof. Dieter Acker ) and music theory at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich. At the same time he enrolled in musicology at the Ludwig- Maximilians- University Munich. A stay at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Mannheim ( among others with Prof. Peter Michael Braun ) followed in 1992, the inclusion of a musicological doctoral studies at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, where he graduated in 1997. In the same year, he completed a fellowship from the Bavarian Ministry of Culture to study abroad at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris.

Teaching

Seamlessly to the study, Bernd Redmann's activity included as facilitators of music: In 1994, he accepted a teaching position at the Musikhochschule in Munich, first for vocal accompaniment and since 1995 also for music theory. 1998/99 was Redmann at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and at the Hochschule für Musik Köln. 1999 to 2005 he was professor of music theory and improvisation at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne, since 2005 he is professor of music theory and ear training at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich. In 2004, Prof. Dr. Redmann was a board member of the " Society for Music Theory."

Work

Composition

Bernd Redmann's work is diverse: It includes solo pieces (eg, " His Eye Shadow " for piano, " Incontro " for flute, "Metro" for viola), chamber music (eg " Goldrush - Moneyrush ", " entanglement " "five little obsessions " ), ensemble works (eg, "Scenario", " Evocación ") and solo concerts (eg Trumpet Concerto, "Secret doors" for two bassoons and orchestra, " Fleeing landscape " for viola and large ensemble ) and orchestral works (eg " fiasco ", "3 Pictures" ). His compositions " O" and " L' usine imaginaire " provide spatial compositions for large ensembles dar. also comes from him the musical theater " The harassed ".

Publications of his works

Redmann's work " fiasco " for large orchestra was released on a CD of many other pieces of radio recordings were made. In 2003, the soundtrack was to " Far out" of Oanh Pham.

Publications

Bernd Redmann published a book on " Methodology and theory of music analysis" and to several essays and articles about Beethoven, Schubert, Schenker, Riemann, to the Salzburg music history, improvisation, instrumentation and practical school piano.

Awards

Redmann's works have received numerous awards; so he was, for example, in 2004 the 2nd prize at the International Competition of the " Transparent Factory " by VW in Dresden for his play " L' usine imaginaire ".
