Berneck is the geographical historical term for the upper course of the river Schiltach Tennenbronn to the confluence of the Lauterbach in Schramberg. As the actual Bernecktal the gorge-like narrowing of the Bernecktales between the ruins Berneck and Falkenstein is called. The Bernecktal is a conservation area.

The name Berneck was used in the official cartography Württemberg and is found today partly on official maps works. The course of the river from its source in Schiltach Langenschiltach Geographically, referred to the confluence of the Lauterbach in Schramberg on Bruck Beck as Berneck. This name dates back to territorial historical events that Berneck was sort of the central geographical line of Falkensteiner rule. The Bernecktal was dominated in the early Middle Ages by the castles Berneck, Ramstein and Falkenstein, the Lords of Falkenstein.
