Bernhard, Hereditary Prince of Baden
Bernhard Max Friedrich August Gustav Louis force Prince of Baden ( born May 27, 1970 Schloss Salem in Salem) leads since 1998, the family of the house of Baden. Following the family tradition, he is unofficially referred to as Hereditary Prince of Baden, Duke of Zahringen.
Life
Bernhard is the eldest son of Maximilian Andreas Markgraf of Baden ( b. 1933 ) and his wife Valerie Isabella ( born Habsburg-Lothringen, born 1941 ). Together with his siblings, he grew up in the family home, Schloss Salem. About his paternal grandmother, Theodora of Greece, he is related to the British Royal Family and is the 2nd degree cousin ( second cousin ) of Prince William and Prince Harry.
As the finances of the family came in the 1990s in distress, gave Prince Bernhard of Baden on his studies of business administration and law in Hamburg and took care of the rehabilitation of the family assets. As part of the family gave to various companies and participations separated from three of its four castles:
- 2000: Schloss Eberstein in Gernsbach
- 2003: New Castle in Baden -Baden
- 2009: The largest part of Salem Castle was sold to the state of Baden -Württemberg.
After the sales of the 2000s is still the only Staufenberg (Black Forest) castle with an associated winery owned by the House of Baden.
