Bert Haanstra

Bert Haanstra ( born May 31, 1916 in Holten, Overijssel, † October 23, 1997 in Hilversum, Noord -Holland) was a Dutch film director, screenwriter, film producer and cameraman.

Life

Haanstra began his film career in 1947. His short film mirror of Holland in 1951 awarded the grand prize at the International Film Festival of Cannes. Glass won the 1960 Oscar for Best Short Documentary, the film also received the Silver Bear at the Berlinale 1958. He also shot feature films, including the comedy ... and the music blows about which in 1959 awarded the Palme d'Or. Haanstra was be with Twelve million eaten with Peter Ustinov as narrator and seizure and nominated a collaboration with the British primatologist Jane Goodall, two more times for the Academy Award for Best Documentary.

Haanstra was appointed an Officer of the Order of Orange -Nassau.
