The Betaherpesvirinae form a subfamily of the virus family Herpesviridae. It consists of the following genera ( with major viral species):

• Genus cytomegalovirus Species human cytomegalovirus (HCMV ) = human herpesvirus 5 (HHV -5)
• Species Pongines herpesvirus 4 ( PoHV -4) ( Chimpanzee herpesvirus 4)

• Genus Muromegalovirus ( in Muridae ) Species Murides herpesvirus 1 ( MuHV -1) ( murine cytomegalovirus )
• Species Murides herpesvirus 2 ( MuHV -1) ( Rat cytomegalovirus )

• Genus Roseolovirus Species Human herpesvirus 6 (HHV -6)
• Species human herpesvirus 7 (HHV -7)

• Genus Proboscivirus
