Betulia liberata

La Bethulia Liberata ( " Liberated Bethulien " ), K. 118 ( 74c ), is an oratorio by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, composed in 1771 by order of Don Giuseppe Ximena (also: Ximenes ) of Padua, Prince of Aragon. It deals with the story of Judith and Holofernes from the Book of Judith in the Bible. The text of the oratorio is by Pietro Metastasio.

At the time of composition, Mozart was with his father on a trip to Italy, where the two made also station in Padua. Stylistically, it resembles works by Leonardo Leo and Johann Hasse. It consists of two files and contains 16 arias with solo or choral parts. The premiere is assumed for 1772, a performance of the composer's lifetime, however, is not used. For 1771 and 1773 the performance of a work of the same name in Padua has been demonstrated, but it is as a composer Giuseppe Callegari (also: Giuseppe Calegaris ) called.
