HEV - route network
The designated Budapesti Helyiérdekű Vasút ( bHEV ), often abbreviated as Helyiérdekű Vasút ( HEV ) is an S -Bahn -like system in Hungary. It connects the capital Budapest with its suburbs in the surrounding areas. The formerly independent operating company is now in the municipal public transport company BKV Budapest Zrt. integrated.
The total of 103.7 km comprehensive route network consisting of four operationally separate routes, all starting in Budapest. They lead to Szentendre in the north, Gödöllő in the east, Ráckeve and Csepel Island in the south. A range of branches in the course, so that the network is served by a total of five lines. They are referred to following the four lines of the Budapest Metro (M1 to M4) as H5 to H9.
Previously, these were to overland trams, which were closely linked with the network of tram Budapest and make shared this part. Today, the suburban trains no longer drive to the city center, but end at the edge of town, continue from where then metro, tramway, trolleybus or bus services to the center. Thus, the distance from Gödöllő at Ors ends vezér in the east of Budapest, where the transition to underground line M2 is. The closest to the town center railway station is Batthyány tér.
History
The bHEV was established before the Second World War as a merger of several suburban railways. In the socialist era, she went into state ownership and was merged in the 1950s for a short time with the state railway company of Magyar Államvasutak ( MÁV ). Since the 1960s, it is part of BKV, which also operates all other local transport in Budapest.

H5 Békásmegyeri / Szentendre HEV

H6 Ráckevei HEV
This south- west is to Ráckeve leading line with a length of 40 kilometers and a journey time of 75 minutes, the longest of all suburban trains and begins south- east of Csepeli HEV. The terminus Közvágóhíd can be reached by tram line 1 of the ring, the Danube shore line 2 and line 24 from Keleti railway (eastern ).

H7 Csepeli HEV
With a length of only seven kilometers and a journey time of 13 minutes, this leading to the south of the Danube island Csepel line is the shortest of all suburban railways. The downtown terminal is equipped with the tram lines 2 and 2A ( along the Pest bank of the Danube ) or the ring lines 4 and 6 accessible. H8 Gödöllői HEV
This line east to Gödöllő requires a driving time of 46 minutes at a distance of 26 kilometers. This line runs on the same route as Gödöllői HEV to Cinkota. The length is only 11 km, the journey time only 23 to 24 minutes.

Technology
All suburban railway routes are electrified and operated at 1000 volts DC. The tracks are standard gauge ( 1435 mm). Several types of vehicles are used, which are mainly from the German Democratic Republic. But also to vehicles manufactured in Hungary are still in use to some extent.
