Military use

The history of military flight operations dates back to the time of the Second World War.

The Indian Air Force uses Bidar since the early 1960s as their main training base for the pilots of fast fighter jets. Benefits Bidars are a certain distance from the major airports and the associated available airspace; the number of aircraft movements on training courses is significantly higher than on list of places in the rule. Even the weather is in the interior and on about 600m above sea level resistant than on the coasts of the Indian Ocean.

It operates here their Mk.132 Hawk trainers, which (as of 2011 ) two Operational Training Squadrons equipped. Parallel to the inlet of the Hawks, who started in 2007, the airport was expanded and modernized, including the runways were extended to 9,000 feet. Besides the Hawks are here today (2011) still stationed older Kiran trainer.
