Style

Leprous play on the album varied progressive metal with influences from alternative metal. There are also " funky moments, reminiscent of the classic, rhythmically stamped Prog, AOR, psychedelic sounds, intricate passages, wonderful melodies, bulky Geriffe and fast, intricate staccato passages ." The vocals are melodic, mostly high and occasionally yelling. Occasionally comparisons to Porcupine Tree, Pain of Salvation, Opeth, Mr. Bungle and King Crimson are drawn.

Reception

The album was well received by the press. Tobias Blum of Rock Hard praises: " The Norwegians dominate a vast repertoire and sound but always focused and accessible. " For Peter Kubaschk of powermetal.de is Bilateral "despite the one or other reminiscence an absolutely independent, unique and original album ," also Thomas Kohlruß of the Baby Blue Pages finds it " despite its diversity of style is not torn, effort or subdivision [ ... ], no, the album seems to float loose, happy, fresh as. of a piece out of the speakers Leprous free himself, in whom they worship no cliché (but some of them sent using ), but simply original music from the influences distilling make them fun. "That eclipsed magazine Bilateral took on in its list of prog metal milestones.
