Bill Cardoso

William J. "Bill" Cardoso (born 24 September 1937 Cambridge, Massachusetts, † 26 February 2006 in Kelseyville, California ) was an American journalist and the New Journalism. Best known Cardoso is for having the term gonzo journalism, the hallmark of his friend Hunter S. Thompson coined.

Life and work

Cardoso was of Portuguese descent. He studied journalism at Boston University. In 1967 he worked for the Boston Globe. In the 1960s and 1970s, Cardoso wrote, inter alia, for Crawdaddy! , Harper 's Weekly, New Times, Ramparts and The Rolling Stone. During this time he was a close friend of Hunter S. Thompson. Cardoso told by legendary boxing match, the Rumble in the Jungle between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman. Some of his work appeared in 1984 in the anthology The Maltese Sangweech and Other Heroes.

Cardoso died on 26 February 2006 in Kelseyville, California, of heart failure.
