Bill Mallon

William " Bill" Mallon ( born February 2, 1952 in Paterson, New Jersey) is an American historian and sports orthopedist.

Bill Mallon worked as a golf professional from 1975 to 1979 on the U.S. PGA Tour, but was interested early on in the history of the Olympic Games. In 1981 he published his first work, a statistical summary of the Olympic Games in 1904.

In 1984 he was a first standard work out, which he had co-authored with Ian Buchanan: Quest for Gold contains short biographies of all U.S. medal winners at the Olympic Games. In 1992, he co-authored with Erich Kamper a Who's Who of the Olympic Games in the Olympic medal winners to each until 1992, the date of birth, and so available, the date of death is listed, provided Kamper and Mallon could this date to find out. In addition, the book contains statistics on sports and participating countries. In 1993, Mallon and Buchanan co-authors, edited by Peter Matthews Guinness International Who's Who of Sport.

Mallon has written monographs on the next Olympic Games from 1896 to 1920. He was awarded the Olympic Order in 2001. Bill Mallon is a founding member of the International Society of Olympic Historians and was the predecessor of Karl Lennartz president of that organization. In addition to his contributions to the Olympic history Mallon has written books about golf and about medical topics. Mallon is a graduate of Duke University and as an orthopedic surgeon specializing in shoulder problems.
