Bill Murphy (baseball)

William R. W. "Bill" Murphy ( born May 9, 1981 in Anaheim, California) is an American baseball player at the position of the pitcher. The left-hander plays since 2010 Chiba Lotte Marines in the Japanese Pacific League, and before that he was active in the North American Major League since 2007.

Murphy attended Arlington High School in Riverside and was selected in the 24th round of the 1999 draft by the San Francisco Giants, but signed no contract, but instead attended the California State University, Northridge and played in the Big West Conference. Then he came Draft 2002 where he was selected in the third round by the Oakland Athletics and this time also signed a contract in the pool of the MLB. After two years the at minor-league teams in the Athletics he finally came in late 2003 by a player exchange to the Florida Marlins, in the summer of 2004 by two trades on consecutive days before the trading deadline first to the Los Angeles Dodgers, then to the Arizona Diamondbacks. There he came from 2005 for the first time on AAA level in the Tucson Sidewinders to use and was treated at the roster expansion in 2007 into the first team. On 3 September 2007 he had the first of ten major league missions as a reliever for the Diamondbacks: in six innings pitched, he scored an ERA of 5.69.

In the spring of 2008, the Diamondbacks Murphy put on waiver, he was acquired by the Toronto Blue Jays on March 17. He spent the 2008 season in the squad of the AAA teams Syracuse Chiefs and began in 2009 to AAA level, now at the Las Vegas 51s. In April 2008 he was transferred to the injury of Jesse Litsch in the first squad. Overall, Murphy threw in eight games for the Blue Jays with an ERA of 3.18. In December, he moved through a one year contract with the Chiba Lotte Marines in Japan, who had finished the preseason with a weak pitching in fifth place.

Murphy was also in the Marines initially used as a reliever, but came after a strong season opener propagated to start and was able to replace the injured in May Yūki Karakawa. Overall, he threw in the regular season in 2010 in 38 games for Lotte, including 20 from the start, and scored a 3.75 ERA and a win -loss record of 12-6.
