Bill Peet

Bill Peet ( born January 29, 1915 in Grandview, Indiana; † 11 May 2002, Studio City, California; actually William Bartlett Peed ) was 1937-1964 artist and story writer for Disney Studios. Especially in the English-speaking world, he became known for his own children's books. For Walt Disney, he worked - partly responsible - the cartoons Uncle Remus' Wonderland, Cinderella, 101 Dalmatians, as well as other films and stories. Bill Peet was married and had two children, Bill and Stephen.

Life and work

Until 1937, before his time at Disney, Bill Peet worked for a greeting card company. 1964 leaves Peet Disney. After Peet Disney had left, he began to write children's books and to illustrate themselves. His first book was Hubert's hair-raising adventure (1959). In 1988 he published his autobiography, also illustrated by him.

Bill Peets children's books are beautifully illustrated and are characterized by a creative language. His hopeful stories whose main characters are often animals are well suited for children. Often the main characters are trying successfully to their plans - despite initially less hope of success - or can not be deterred by Killjoy of what they want to just do or seek compromises that make everyone happy. Frequently, the stories have a surprising end.

The language, though written in prose, very lyrical. She's playful, but not mediocre and is explained in doubt by the catchy and appealing images.

Bill Peets children's books are particularly common and well known in the English-speaking world. He has received numerous awards, such as the Annie Award.

Peet is often in the same breath with the - known children's book authors Dr. Seuss and Maurice Sendak - also known in English-speaking countries.
