Bill Woodrow

Bill Woodrow (* November 1, 1948 in Henley, Oxfordshire ) is a British sculptor and draftsman.

Life

From 1967 to 1972 Bill Woodrow studied at the Winchester School of Art ( 1967-1968 ), St Martin's School of Art, London ( 1968-1971 ) and at the Chelsea School of Art, London ( 1971-1972 ).

Since 1970 he takes the world in various group exhibitions, including London, Kuala Lumpur, Tehran, Toulouse, Wolfsburg, Seoul, Valencia, Paris, Berlin, Rio de Janeiro, Chicago, San Francisco, Washington, New York and Kassel ( Documenta 8) Dusseldorf, Leeds and most recently in the Kunsthalle Wien part. 1972 First solo exhibition at the Whitechapel Art Gallery, London; 1978 second exhibition in the Künstlerhaus Hamburg. Then followed other solo exhibitions in galleries and museums worldwide, including at the Kunsthalle Basel (1985 ), at the Seattle Art Museum ( 1988), in the Musées des Beaux -arts in Calais and Le Havre ( 1989), Kunstverein Munich (1987) the Institute Mathildenhoehe, Darmstadt (1996) and the Tate Gallery, London (1988 and 2000).

From 1982 to 1991 he acted as artist Britain on the Biennales of Sydney (1982 ), Paris (1982 and 1985) and São Paulo (1983 and 1991).

In 1986 he was a finalist in the competition for the British Turner Prize; In 1988, he won the Anne Gerber Award from the Seattle Museum of Arts. 2000/2001 he was a proposal for the fourth, then still empty plinth of Trafalgar Square, London ( Regardless of History ) invited ( not executed).

From 1996 to 2001 he was a Trustee of the Tate Galleries; since 2002 he is a member of the Royal Academy of Arts, London; since 2003 he is a Trustee of the Imperial War Museum, London; Member since 2003 of the Court of Governors of the University of the Arts, London.
