Billabong (clothing)

Billabong is an Australian fashion company manufactures, the clothing and accessories for surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding. The company was founded in 1973 on the Gold Coast by Gordon and Rena Merchant and named after the Aboriginal word for waterhole or oasis. Billabong sold alongside the company's own products but also the purchased over the years sports equipment manufacturer Palmers Surf, Honolua Surf, Von Zipper, Kustom footwear, Nixon Watches and Element Skateboards.

In August 2000 Billabong went to the Australian Stock Exchange Australian Securities Exchange. In 2006 the company achieved sales of around 1 billion Australia dollars (about 600 million euros ), of which approximately 146 million net profit. Billabong has, since February 2012 677 company-owned stores worldwide.
