Billy Wright (musician)

Billy Wright ( born May 21, 1932 in Atlanta, Georgia, † October 27, 1991 ) was an American blues singer. He had the nickname " Prince of the Blues". Wright was one of the main characters of the Atlanta Blues after the Second World War and was a major influence on later rock and roll star Little Richard, which he helped to his first recordings.

Wright's first recording Blues for My Baby rose 1949 to # 3 on the Billboard R & B charts. Other hits have included Stacked Deck and Hey Little Girl (both 1951). In the second half of the 1950s a record success subsided.

Wright remained active in the music scene of Atlanta. A stroke mid- 1970 forced him kürzerzutreten. Billy Wright died in 1991 in his hometown.
