Biografisch Woordenboek van Nederland

The Biographical Woordenboek van Nederland 1880-2000 ( BWN ) ( German: Biographical Dictionary of the Netherlands ) is a Dutch personnel Encyclopedia, published 1979-2009 in six parts. It includes short biographies of well-known 2071 Dutchmen of the 20th century and the late 19th century. It is the successor of the Nieuw Nederlandsch Biographical Woordenboek ( NNBW ) and goes back to an initiative of the historian Ivo Schoeffer. The work is completed. Entries to persons from the period 1780-1830 Biographical Woordenboek van Nederland 1780-1830 are currently being developed in the project.

The biographical reference book is accessible free of charge since 2002 on the website of the Instituut voor Nederlandse Geschiedenis (Institute for Dutch History, ING ).
