Birnbaumteich

The Birnbaumteich, also Bernburger pond, is a historic dam in Saxony- Anhalt. It is located near deserted village of Birnbaum at Neudorf in the middle of the Lower Harz. The reservoir is part of the heritage area Lower Harz Pond and grave system.

History

The dam was completed in 1699 and commissioned for the mining industry in the Neudorf area in operation. From 1779 calf eyes pond served as the backing store for the Birnbaumteich. 1963 the system had to be repaired because the drain plug was broken. In 1967 the dam was put back into operation and has since then served the rest. In summer 2006 there was a reorganization of the dam. At the reservoir, there is swimming, a campground and the "holiday park Birnbaumteich ".

Type

The dam is an earth dam with an inner core seal. The seal is in the old part of turf in the new part at the bottom outlet of clay. The spillway on the right slope consists of a pipe culvert with a diameter of 1 m. The jammed waters is the Birnbaum Bach.
