Birštonas

Birštonas ( German, 18th Century: Birschtannen ) is a resort town in the southern part of Lithuania. The city is the seat of the municipality Birštonas in Kaunas district. The city's name is attributed to biržtva ( " Birch Grove ").

Geography

The Birštonas located 39 km south of Kaunas and 7 km southeast of Prienai, on the right bank of the river Memel ( Nemunas ). Birštonas located in Memel loop Regional Park. In the three artificial lakes in the city you can swim. In the urban area of 13 km ² live 3136 people.

History
