Birth Control was formed in August 1966 of two Berlin bands, the Earls and the Gents. The founding members were Bernd Koschmidder, Reinhold Sobotta, Rolf Gurra, Fritz Groeger, Klaus Orso, Reiner Borchert and Hugo Egon Balder. In the late 1960s the birth control was a much discussed topic because of the encyclical Humanae Vitae of Pope; the English expression Birth Control heard the band members at the radio station AFN and decided to make this the band's name.

Birth Control distinguished himself first as a cover band, mainly with pieces by Julie Driscoll. After the first personnel changes - Balder and Orso left the band, Bernd Noske came about - took the band early in 1969 a three-month stint in a Beirut nightclub true.

Guitarist Borchert remained in Lebanon, Bruno Frenzel replaced him. After Fritz Groeger was excreted in the late summer, the band first started einzuspielen own pieces. The band then hoofed it through Germany. In Vienna, the first single was produced at the end of the year Rolf Gurra got out, and the first LP Birth Control appeared. The group was invited as the only German band to Super Concert 70 in the Germany Halle in Berlin, on the Jimi Hendrix, Ten Years After and Procol Harum played. The band also starred in two films, a vampire comedy and a film with Ingrid Steeger.

Birth Controls first LP was released in an unusual cover: a round tin that resembles a birth control pill box. This was followed by tours in German-speaking and 1971, the second album. On the cover was a picture of the Pope with a baby -eating monster. The English cover makes for a strike package, because on him condoms were mapped. At the same time but that was publicity, so that birth control were invited to give concerts in England and so appeared as the first German band at London's Marquee Club. In England a concert in Cannes follows.

1972 was the breakthrough year for Birth Control: The album Hoodoo Man appeared in the new record company CBS. Birth Control toured Europe and was the main act at events. The greatest success was Gamma Ray, who also conquered the techno scene in the 1990s.

There were other panels and tours. The late 1970s, declined sales. Horst Stachelhaus replaced in 1977 Föller, Manni von Bohr ( as Stachelhaus of the band Message) caused as a drummer that Noske could take better care of the vocals.

1983 Bruno Frenzel died on the late effects of electric shock, so the band lost their main composer and lyricist. Noske dissolves the band.

In addition to old recordings, which appeared gradually as CDs, new albums the band produced, but had largely thanks to the old hits again great popularity. Xaver " fish fingers " Fischer (keyboards ) contributed most of the songs on the album Jungle Life.

After the death of Horst Stachelhaus was the occupation until 2014 Bernd Noske ( drums, vocals ), Martin " Ludi " Ettrich (guitar ), Sascha Kühn (keyboard) and Hannes Vesper ( bass).
