Bis (Band)

Up is the name of a Scottish band that was founded in 1995 and dissolved in 2003 meanwhile. Their musical style can be described as synth pop and dance music. The three band members are Amanda MacKinnon ( stage name " Manda Rin " ), Steven Clark ( artist name " Sci- Fi Steven " ) and Stevens younger brother John Clark ( stage name " John Disco ").

Musical career

Up was founded in 1995, then Manda and John were still in school, Steven had just graduated. Until 1996, the first band was allowed to perform without a contract with the famous TV show Top of the Pops. After the performance they achieved mainly in the UK more and more attention, and were greeted by the record companies Wiiija (for UK ) and Grand Royal, the label of the Beastie Boys ( for the USA) under contract. After they had some 1996 EPs released in small numbers, in 1997 their debut album The New Transistor Heroes followed. The album was sold mainly in Japan a great success, there were in the first week nearly 100,000 CDs. In the United States were known until when they wrote a song for the soundtrack of the film The Powerpuff Girls.

Until succeeded twice to enter the Top 40 in the UK charts: 1996 EP The Secret Vampire Soundtrack and 1998 with the single euro disco. In other European countries and in the U.S. they were able to record any chart success. Having had published until a total of five albums, they gave in February 2003, announced their separation. All three band members turned to other musical projects. Steven and John played in the band Dirty Hospital, Amanda was DJane and singer of the band The Kitchen. 2005 founded the three new joint band called Panic data, together with the bass player and drummer Stuart Memo Graham Christie. After singer Manda Rin also made solo music is the band in April 2007, again as bis tour also appear a greatest hits album and a DVD.
