Beastie Boys

The Beastie Boys are one of the oldest and most successful hip- hop bands and come from New York City, USA.

History

The Beastie Boys began in 1979 as a hardcore punk band. The former band consisted of Michael Diamond (Mike D), Adam Yauch (MCA ), John Berry and Kate Schell Bach. Their musical influences were bands like Black Flag and Bad Brains. In 1982, they released an EP Polly Wog Stew, titled and released in the Greater New York a few concerts. That same year, guitarist John Berry left the band. He was replaced by Adam Horovitz (Ad skirt). In 1983, the group had the opportunity to re- record an album, but the result was not a hardcore album, but the obscure single Cooky Puss. It consisted of a hoax phone call with under established beats and so was the first step in the direction of hip-hop. The first two EPs were later re-released under the name Some old bullshit.

The three boys then showed more and more interest in hip-hop, Kate Schell Bach was thereby forced out of the band. The ensuing three cast was existing until the death of Adam Yauch formation. Kate Schell Bach played then at Luscious Jackson. The turn to hip-hop is also explained with the Jewish roots of the band members.

1985 were the Beastie Boys on to a band contest in the movie Krush Groove. In the same year they had as the opening act for Madonna's " Virgin Tour" first performances in front of a larger audience. They each played a two pieces of the program and then left under the boos of the audience shocked the stage. Only with the release of their debut album Licensed to Ill (1986 ) and the subsequent tour with the hip- hop group Run DMC succeeded the three guys in the breakthrough. In 1989 Paul 's Boutique, a hip-hop milestone, which was counted by Rolling Stone magazine among the 500 best albums. On the album Check Your Head (1992 ), the band went back to their reinforced punk rock roots. The album from 1994, Ill Communication, brought forth sabotage a big hit.

Musicians who often collaborated with the Beastie Boys are Michael Schwartz aka Mix Master Mike (DJ) - he was with Hello Nasty (1998) first heard on an official album - Mark Ramos- Nishita aka Money Mark ( keyboards, vocals, carpentry ), Wendell Fite aka DJ Hurricane (DJ ), Eric Bobo ( percussion), Amery Smith aka AWOL (drums) and Alfredo Ortiz ( percussion) and producer Mario Caldato Junior aka Mario C, Rick Rubin, John King and Mike Simpson alias The Dust Brothers.

2002 sued the American jazz flutist James Newton, the Beastie Boys: parts of his composition Choir were sampled for the hit Pass the Mic. The lawsuit Newton before the U.S. Supreme Court was rejected because the ECM label had ( which acted as a publisher for his recording ) the rights without the knowledge of the flutist for a one-time fee of $ 1,000 transferred.

In 2004, she published in the Rip project. Sample. Mash. Share. of Wired magazine, their song Now Get Busy under the Creative Commons NonCommercial Sampling license.

In July 2009, Adam Yauch announced that he would be diagnosed with parotid gland cancer. The planned for autumn 2009 publication of the eighth studio album by the Beastie Boys, Hot Sauce Committee Part 1, had to be postponed due to his ill health. According to a previous announcement of the band on their website, the album was released on 3 May 2011 under the title Hot Sauce Committee Part Two. With the album, a 30 minute film entitled Fight for Your Right Revisited is published, which among other Jack Black, Will Ferrell, Elijah Wood, Seth Rogen and Stanley Tucci played along.

On 14 April 2012, the Beastie Boys have been included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. May 4, 2012 Adam Yauch died of complications from cancer.

Band name

How accurate was the band's name is not known. The assertion that " beastie " is the acronym for B ( oys ) E ( ntering ) A ( narchistic ) S ( tates ) T ( owards ) I ( nternal ) E ( xcellence ), was only subsequently as a backronym.

Social / Political Commitment

The Beastie Boys - Adam Yauch in particular - have been working for years for the rights of women and which was founded by Yauch Milarepa Fund for the International Tibet Independence Movement. Adam Yauch was interested in Buddhism since 1992, since 1996 he was a practicing Buddhist.
