Blackford (Perth and Kinross)

Blackford (Gaelic: Srath Gaoithe ) is a village in the Scottish region of Perth and Kinross. Blackford is located on the Allan Water, a tributary of the Forth, about 5 km southwest of Auchterarder and 18 km north-east of Stirling in the traditional county of Perthshire.

1716 destroyed retracting Jacobites Blackford after the battle of Sheriffmuir. The village, however, was rebuilt.

Economy

In the expiring Middle Ages Blackford was considered a center of brewing and even the Scottish King James IV visited the village to sample the local beer. Since 1949 Blackford is the location of the distillery Tullibardine. Furthermore, in Blackford Highland Spring mineral water is bottled.

Traffic

Blackford is just off the A9, which connects Edinburgh with Thurso and is thus well connected to the long distance network. In 1848, the Scottish Central Railway established a rail link between Perth and Stirling, who also operated the station of Blackford. However, this was abandoned in the meantime.
