Blair is a city and the county seat ( county seat ) of Washington County in the U.S. state of Nebraska. On the outskirts there is the Fort Calhoun nuclear power plant.

History

Blair was created when the Sioux City & Pacific Railroad wanted to cross the Missouri River and on the other side of the river in Nebraska, a new city was required. It was named after John Insley Blair, 1869 1.075 acres of land acquired on 10 May by the first settlers who had lived here since 1855. He named the new city after. Quick created numerous buildings, among others, Shops and a courthouse. In addition, the first hotel, the first bank and the first newspaper was founded. The bridge over the Missouri was finally completed in 1882. The local brickyard had 1.5 million bricks per year manufacture to comply with the rapid growth of the city. The four-story building of Trinity Seminary (now Dana College) was inaugurated in 1886. In 1914, a power plant, and in the 1930s the " Bee-Line " was completed, which later was to Highway 30.

Geography

Blair is located in eastern Nebraska on the border of Iowa and falls directly on the Missouri River. Through the city run the Nebraska State Route 91, U.S. Highway 75 and U.S. Highway 30, the latter forms part of the historic Lincoln Highway.

Demography

According to the census of 2000, Blair has 7,512 inhabitants, of whom 3,577 men and 3,935 women.
