Blarinella

The Asiatic short-tailed shrews ( Blarinella ) are a living in East Asia shrew genus with three species.

Features

Asian Short-tailed shrews are similar in physique to the American short-tailed shrews, with whom they are not related particularly close. Your body is adapted to a partially grave lifestyle: the claws of the front and hind feet are enlarged, the ears small and hidden in the fur and the tail is relatively short ( only about half as long as the body ). The coat is dark gray to dark brown at the top, the bottom is a little brighter for all types except Blarinella quadraticauda.

These animals reach head fuselage lengths 6-8 centimeters and a weight of 10 to 15 grams, with Blarinella wardi the smallest and Blarinella quadraticauda is the largest species.

Dissemination

Asian Short-tailed shrews are in southwestern China ( Yunnan, Shaanxi, Sichuan and Gansu ), and at home in northern Myanmar. About their life little is known. You should create tunnels in loose soil or in plant material lying on the ground and feed on insects.

System

Some classifications group all animals together into a kind of ( Blarinella quadraticauda ), but younger plants distinguish three types:

  • Blarinella griselda is distributed from Gansu to Yunnan.
  • Blarinella quadraticauda occurs only in western Sichuan.
  • Blarinella wardi is native to Yunnan and northern Myanmar.
