Blatnica, Slovakia

Blatnica (1927-1946 " Turčianska Blatnica "; Hungarian Blatnica ) is a town about 18 kilometers southeast of the town of Martin in Central Slovakia.

Location

The village lies at the foot of the Great Fatra at the junction of three valleys ( Gaderská dolina dolina Blatnická and konský dol ) and is crowned by the ruins of the castle Blatnica. In the surroundings of the village there are numerous recreational facilities.

History

The place is an old settlement site and a major archaeological site. It was found a cave settlement from the Eneolithic, a mass discovery of the Bronze Age and the Roman period. After excavated here sword, a lance, and other Slavic colonization attributable finds from the period around 800 ( Nitra principality ) of archaeological Blatnice - Mikulcice horizon was named.

The town was first mentioned in 1120. It developed as a rural community in the protection of the castle, and later he was the center of saffron cultivation and trade of oil, which also brought some prosperity to the village, of which the typical houses bear witness with their big gates.

After 1808, the medieval churches and Sebeslavce Svätý Ondrej were ( north of the main town ) incorporated.
