The blue springs from the Blautopf in Beuren, the karst spring with the second highest bed ( 2.300 l / s) in Germany. The source Blaubeuren monastery forms the outflow of the blue cave.

Blautal

From its source in the blue pot the blue flows past in an easterly direction to the main Blaubeuren, Gerhausen, Arnegg, Mr. Lingen, bluestone and the Ulm district Söflingen. In Blaubeuren opens, a few hundred meters below the blue pot, coming from the right Ah, already has a flow distance of about 10 km behind. In Klingenstein flows coming from the left the volume up, which also arises from a large karst spring.

Mouth

In Ulm, it flows to the former factory premises of commercial vehicle manufacturers Magirus-Deutz and Kässbohrer over. In " Blue Park " it divides into two arms ( "Little Blue " and " Big Blue " ), both of which flow under the B 10 through to after verdolt to be passed under the Ulm main station. After the main train station, the two arms again approach each other and flow through at a distance of a few meters, the Ulm fishing district. A few meters in front of the Danube is the Little Blue verdolt in the Great Blue introduced shortly thereafter flows into the Danube.

Urdonautal

The Valley of the Blue was formed by the ancient Danube. When the Swabian Alb raised during the folding of the Alps, the ancient Danube ate first ever deeper into the rock until she finally sought a bed on the south. Here, the Hochsträß from the rest of Alb was isolated. In the southern part of the valley flows the Schmiech today, which flows into the Danube near Ehingen.
