Bled Gorge

The Vintgar (Slovenian: Blejski vintgar ) is a gorge about 4 km northwest of Bled in Slovenia. It is accessible from Bled through the villages degree Grinsce, Sp - Gorje and Zg.Graben. The gorge is part of the Triglav National Park and has been expanded end of the 19th century as a tourist attraction. In addition, the river valley is one of the protected natural monuments.

History

Was discovered in the gorge in 1891 by the then Mayor of Gorje, Jacob Žumer, together with the cartographers and photographers Benedict Lergetporer from Bled. From the enthusiasm out they formed a building committee, and already two years later, the gorge was accessible to everyone.

Over time, the wooden jetty was repeatedly washed away by floods, so she is now slightly higher than in the first years. In addition, it has become attached to points predestinated steel nets to protect against falling rocks.

The construction manager Jacob Žumer is thought in the middle of the gorge with a small plaque in Slovenian and German language.
