Bliszczyce

Bliszczyce ( German: Bleischwitz ) is a town in Upper Silesia. Bliszczyce is located in the rural community Branice ( Branitz ) in Głubczycki powiat ( county Leobschutz ) in the Polish Opole Voivodeship.

Geographical Location

Bliszczyce located five kilometers northwest of the municipality seat Branice ( Branitz ), 15 kilometers southwest of the county town of Głubczyce ( Leobschutz ) and 67 kilometers south of the Opole voivodship ( Opole ). The village lies on the Czech- Polish border, and west of it flows the river Oppa.

Neighboring towns of Bliszczyce are in the northeast Lewice ( Löwitz ), to the east Michałkowice ( Michel village), in the southeast Branice ( Branitz ) and to the west the Czech Krnov ( Jägerndorf ).

History

The town was first mentioned in 1248. 1279 Queen Gwendolyn gave the place the city Jägerndorf. 1665 for the first time a school has been established. 1672 the present stone church was built, it replaced a wooden predecessor. 1850 a new school building was built. 1818 was one of the place 27 farmers, 26 gardeners and 59 cottagers and had a free Vorwerk and a Catholic church rectory. In 1865 the town had 32 farmers, 77 and 36 tilled empty smallholdings. At this time, the place had two water mills and an oil and brawl at the school 182 students were taught by two teachers. 1885 lived 1229 inhabitants in the town.

In the plebiscite in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921 voted in 1041 voters to remain in Germany and no one for membership in Poland. Bleischwitz remained with the German Reich. 1933 lived 1415 inhabitants in the town. In 1939 the place 1351 inhabitants. By 1945, the place was in the district Leobschutz.

In 1945 the previously German place under Polish administration and renamed Bliszczyce and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. The native German population was systematically expelled. In 1950, the city came to Opole Voivodeship and since 1999 he is part of the powiat Głubczycki.
