Action
The frame story describes the states in the hairdressing competitions, which are located here in a somewhat sleepy English town called Keighley.
Alan Rickman is the grumpy Phil Allen, the stylist with the little shop around the corner, which was a really big one in his profession actually once. To him his wife Shelley left to live with the lesbian hairstyles model Sandra and to run your own salon. Their son Brian stayed with his deeply frustrated father.
The fate takes its course: Phil comes neither help to finally come to terms with his past, yet he manages to escape from the participation in the competition. What his old adversary Raymond Robertson brings the loss of the championship. Between Christina, the daughter of his arch-rival, and Phil's son a tender love affair develops.
Background
On Alan Rickman's suggestion was a hairdresser who worked as a consultant for the Department, used as a juror in the film.
