Blowin' in the Wind

Blowin 'in the Wind is the title of a well-known folk songs. The text was written by Bob Dylan in April 1962 in a New York folk pub. The melody came from an old traditional gospel with the title No More Auction Block.

The song first appeared in 1963 on Dylan's second studio album The Freewheelin 'Bob Dylan on Columbia Records. The text published Dylan advance in the magazine Sing Out! . The piece has also been published yet in the same year as a single, but was unable to place in the charts themselves.

The song was regarded as an anthem of the folk-rock movement. The song's lyrics deal with rhetorical questions. He became an anti-war anthem. There are numerous cover versions. The best known are by Peter, Paul & Mary, Joan Baez, The Hollies, Marlene Dietrich, Elvis Presley, Chet Atkins, Sam Cooke, Neil Young and Stevie Wonder. Even as film music, the song was often used. Jon J. Muth 2011 on the lyrics illustrated a children's book, the epilogue is by Greil Marcus.

Before Dylan himself grossed the song on his 1963 record, The Freewheelin 'Bob Dylan, he published the text in 1962 in the folk magazine Sing Out! . This later led to copyright issues because of the musicians Lorre Wyatt played the song as his own and spent at concerts. When Dylan then released the song himself, claimed Wyatt, Dylan had sold him the song for a few dollars. Only in 1974, in an interview confessed his mistake Wyatt.

2004, the song was chosen by Rolling Stone magazine ranked 14 of the 500 best songs of all time.
