Blue Wing Airlines

The Blue Wing Airlines ( BWA) is a US-based private airline Suriname. Home base of their small fleet of Zorg en Hoop Airport in Paramaribo. Here at Doekhieweg in the homonymous district of Zorg en Hoop is also the management of the airlines.

In January 2002, the BWA commenced its business activities. You since then performs predominantly domestic scheduled services and charter flights.

From June 2006 to November 2007 was the airline due to safety deficiencies on the black list of the EU. In July 2010, and most recently in December 2012 Blue Wing Airlines has been added to this list again.

Route network

The BWA has besides domestic passenger and cargo flights is also a regular service to Guyana. The flights Paramaribo -Georgetown - Paramaribo be performed three times a week.

Accidents

On 3 April 2008 one of the five Antonov BWA crashed near the border with French Guiana at Benzdorp. Here, (36) and the co-pilot Robert Lackin all 19 occupants were including the pilot Soeriani Jhauw - Verkuyl (23 ) lost their lives. The pilot was the wife of Amichand Jhauw, director of the airline. Her brother, also pilot the BWA was at the time of the accident also with Antonov on the Airstrip Lawa Antino at Benzdorp.

The heavily charred corpses were still transferred to Paramaribo on the day of the crash. A group of six experts from the Netherlands flew on 4 April after Suriname to support the Surinamese authorities in the identification of the bodies and in the investigation of the crash.

15 May 2010 crashed again an Antonov An-28 of the BWA in all eight occupants, including the pilot Peter Veldkamp and the co-pilot Nerina Latchmansing died. The accident occurred about 10 minutes after the start in Godo Olo, on the way to Paramaribo near the village Poeketie (also: Puketi ) in the district Sipaliwini, on Tapanahony.
