BMW N42

The BMW N42 is a standard developed by BMW petrol engine with four cylinders and 16 valves are actuated by dual overhead camshafts. The N42 is the first motor model, in which the Valvetronic system was used to obtain a lower consumption, reduced exhaust emissions and also a better response and a smoother running was achieved. He also has double -VANOS, two gear-driven balance shafts and in the case of the two-stage variant N42B20 Schaltsaugrohranlage DISA. As motor control Bosch DME ME9.2 served the EK924. In 2001, won the N42 the International Engine of the Year Award. It has been produced in two variants with engine capacity 1796 cc and 1995 cc, and came only in the 3-series ( E46 ) were used. Parallel to this type of engine was developed for certain world markets, the BMW N40 with a smaller displacement without Valvetronic.
